Antonio Carangelo

Antonio was born in Lecce, Italy. He studied at the at the Music Conservatoire in Genova and at the Accademia d'arte Lirica in Osimo. He perfected his technique with the famous teachers Maestro Mario del Monaco and Maestro Ettore Campogalliani, who also taught Luciano Pavarotti, Mirella Freni, Renata Tebaldi etc. After his debut at the Grand Theatre de Geneve in Switzerland, he performed in many opera houses such as Osimo, Lecce, Bergamo, Udine, Milan, Lyon, St. Etienne, Tokyo, New York etc. in leading tenor roles from Rigoletto, Traviata, Macbeth, Ernani, L'elisir d'amore, Lucia di Lammermoor, Tosca, La Boheme, Gianni Schicchi, Madame Butterfly, Werther, Don Giovanni etc. His interpretation in Verdi Ernani at the New York Grand Opera provided his international breakthrough.

 

After many years of professional experience he devoted himself to teaching, so he could pass on his singing technique to talented young singers. He founded the Carangelo Belcanto Academy in Vienna and leads several Singing Masterclasses all over Europe. Maestro Carangelo is yearly invited to form part of the jury at the International Singing Competition Antonin Dvorak in Carlsbad (Czech Republic).

 

Many of Maestro Carangelo's students are singing leading roles at opera houses all around the world such as Vienna State Opera, Volksoper Wien, Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Fenice (Venice), La Scala (Milan), the Salzburg Festival, Covent Garden (London), Teatro Col' (Buenos Aires) and Folkoperan (Stockholm).
